Remember that no matter what trials we face this week God is there. We need to keep our eye steadily on God and what He has in store for us. Here are a couple scriptures to help you through the week.

Psalm 51:10 (New International Version)

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
       and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Psalm 112:7 (New International Version)

7 He will have no fear of bad news;
       his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

Sunday Words: Selfishness

Today’s word might hit closer to home then most of us would like to admit. Selfishness is such a common trait these days. It’s almost expected in this society. Which is terribly unfortunate. I know I struggle with selfishness. There are many weekend mornings where I am irritated that I am getting up with the kids while dh is snoring away. The advice I would give to someone who has the “but I deserve this” thoughts…PRAY in that moment. Before opening your mouth to say anything to the person you are resenting..PRAY. Pray for God to correct your heart. Pray for God to soften your heart. Help God help you realize the sin in your heart. Here is today’s scripture:

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.      -Phillipians 2:3-4 NRSV

Grace

1 Timothy 1:14 (New International Version)

14The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

Grace. It may have different meanings for different people. Tonight I’m going to try and explain what grace means to me. To me this is one of the best undeserving gifts God can give us here on earth (aside from children). He freely gives grace to anyone who will receive it. Although in my eyes it doesn’t come without responsibility. I believe if you take grace from God, then you better be glorifying him while you are on this earth. We are not saved by grace alone. We need to make it visibly apparent in our works that we have accepted God’s grace. We need to make sure that everything we do is the inspiration of God and gives full glory to Him.

I strive everyday to show that I have accepted God’s grace. Yes, it is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Do I fail at it? Regularly. Does God hold that against me? Not if I recognize my sins and repent.

What does grace mean to you?
