Something Crafty – Welcome board

BOTH of the kids were actually asleep at the same time today!!! I was able to make this. It was a spur of the moment project that I’m not totally in love with. It’s hanging on the wall in front of our door, so people see it when they first come in. It still needs to dry and I’m sure i’ll add some embellishments to it. I used Mod Podge and I’m not sure I’m liking the look. I think I should have just used regular scrapbooking glue. Anyway, here it is. I hope it inspired you to do something crafty!

Take-A-Look_Tuesday: Pin Cushion/button holder

I ran across this idea a few years ago and never tried it until a few weeks ago. I LOVED making it; and i love using it even more. I do think I need to invest in glue gun though. I just used super sticky squares to glue on the top and the ribbon. So far it’s working well, but I would never give it to someone without using a glue gun.

Items needed:

baby food jar
a scrap of fabric (enough to make a circle 6″ in diameter)
ribbon and other embelishments you would like to add
pins and buttons (or whatever else you would like to put in the jar)
Sorry there aren’t any pictures!
1. cut your fabric into a 6″ circle. baste the edge of the circle, when you are done pull one end of the thread to tighten the edge of the fabric to make a pouch.
2. Fill with polly fill. A good sized handful should be enough.
3. Continue pulling on the thread to close it up. Use a needle to sew it shut.
4. Grab the lid to the baby food jard and slather the top with hot glue. Then press the cushin onto the top of the lid. Wait for it to dry.
5. Apply ribbon around the edge of the lid and covering the space between the cushin and the lid. Use hot glue for this. The bow on my ribbon was already tied for me as it was part of a gift bag. I suggest tying the bow how you want it before you glue it on.
6. Add additional embelishments if you would like. put some buttons (or other crafty things..paper flowers maybe?) in the jar and stick some pins in the top.
7. Keep it at your craft space or bless someone with your creativity!
If you make one of these I would LOVE to see it! Post a comment here with a link to pictures!
