Braided Peppery Cheese Rolls

I made these today to go with tonight’s dinner, baked chicken and Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes. They look nothing like the picture on All Recipes (I added cheese on top and they aren’t very braided. lol) They are still really yummy though.
yield 12
Ingredients
  • 4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups flour, sugar, yeast, salt and pepper. In a saucepan, heat milk and butter to 120 degrees F-130 degrees F. Add to dry ingredients; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add 1 egg and 1/2 cup flour; beat 2 minutes longer. Stir in cheese and enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  2. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  3. Punch dough down. Turn onto a floured surface; cover and let rest for 15 minutes. Divide into 36 pieces. Shape each into a 6-in. rope. Braid three ropes together. Pinch ends to seal. Repeat with remaining dough. Place on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  4. Beat remaining egg; brush over braids. Bake at 375 degrees F for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan to a wire rack to cool.

A sad day

Our dog, Sammy (13yrs, chihuahua/terrier mix), had been missing for a few hours. I’m out of town with the kids and my husband is home alone without a car. He had text me that she had been gone a while. I suggested that he called around to some pet hospitals. He called Bradshaw Animal Hospital and they said they had a dog that matched the description that was brought in. There wasn’t anything they could do to save her. She passed away at the hospital. We sent them a picture of Sammy and they are 98% sure it is her. 😦 my husband is going tomorrow after church to identify her.
eta: He did go to the vet and identify her…it was her. My husband had her all her life.

Sacred Influence by Gary Thomas

I was blessed with this book by a friend (Emily over at Barefoot in the Rain). I look forward to starting it. I’ve heard great things about this author and can’t wait to dive in and see what he has to say.
I admit that i don’t know how to inspire or influence my husband. I don’t have the first clue. i’m hoping that this book helps me understand my husband better and what he needs as a man to feel respected and appreciated.
Over at Christian Moms Forums We are doing a study on this book. The paperback copy that I was blessed with has the study questions in the back of the book. Someone will be listing the study questions at CMF in the Bible Study forum. I strongly recommend going to this website for some great fellowship and to follow along with the discussion about this book.

Sacred Influence by Gary Thomas

A friend of mine sent me this book recently. Over at Christian Moms Forum we will be doing a study on this book. There is a study guide in the back of the book that we will be using. It is a highly recommended book as it teaches you how to inspired and shape your husband’s soul by being a God fearing woman and being a spiritual light for your husband.

I’ve had this movie on loan to us since December; dh asked to watch it with me tonight.

It was an awesome movie. The acting was more like a high school play, but the message was awesome!
If your marriage is on a rock, or on the rocks…I strongly recomend this movie!

Today’s Scriptures and inspirational quotes

Today’s scriptures/inspirational quotes come from several bibles and books that I am reading. First I want to say that I did not read any of this ahead of time. for the Women’s devotional and the Couple’s devotional, I simply turned to the first Wednesday reading I came too when i randomly opened the book. How fitting that it ALL deals with exactly what I’m going through right now. God is SO good. He really does speak to us. We just really need to LISTEN for him and to him.

1. This quote was written by Catherine DeVries and is on page 477 of the NIV Women’s Devotional Bible 2.

The Battle

Lord, I’m losing ground.

The enemy hunts me. Haunts me.

I feel like I’m wielding a squirt gun against a

circle of slashing knives. How weary I am…

I FELT IT

The touch of your hand.

Hold mine tighter.

Help me feel your strength.

Fortify my weak armaments

Lord, I’m gaining ground.

2. This next one is very fitting for my life right now. Today’s reading in the NLT Daily Walk Bible in the “your daily walk” section it states to look at Matthew 12:25:

Jesus knew their thoughts and replied, “Any kingdom at war with itself is doomed. A city or home divided against itself is doomed.”

Wow, that scripture is just SO profound in my life right now. I am having emotional divisions in my mind. This scripture really kicked my rear into gear about thinking how God wants me to make sure that we build our home in the likeness of the Lord himself.

3. Nehemiah 9::17

They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.

We need to remember that saying “I’m sorry” is very one sided. This doesn’t require the offended party to respond. Asking forgiveness on the other hand is very much a two way street. Asking forgiveness is asking the offended to release you of your sins against them in the way that God does with us every day. On the other hand the offender, when asking for forgiveness needs to change that behavior so that issue and be in the past and stay in the past.

I let my husband down

Recently my husband came across some posts I wrote on a forum. They weren’t written with a happy heart. They were written with a hateful heart. I’m embarrassed and I want to change my thinking when I get upset. I want to not feel like running gaway when things get tough.

Please recommend books and scripture for me to read. Thank you.
